HPS Schönox announces winners of Worst Subfloor contest

Posted Date: 2/11/2015

[Las Vegas] HPS Schönox introduced its first annual Worst Subfloor in North America contest last year, and at Surfaces 2015 announced its winners.

“The contest was phenomenally successful this year. We had more entries than we thought we would,” said Doug young, executive vice president, HPS Schönox. “The contest was so successful that we’ll be running it again this year.”

The contest asked for companies to photograph subpar subfloors before and after a renovation utilizing HPS Schönox materials. John McGrath, executive director of INSTALL, Jim Walker, CEO of International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association/CFI, and Lew Migliore, president of LGM and Associates Technical Flooring Services, judged the contest based on the severity of the original subfloor’s condition, the skill and attention to detail taken in executing the project and the quality of the finished subfloor.

“The Schönox Contest is a great opportunity for flooring installers to showcase the critical skills and tangible value that they bring to projects,” said Migliore.

First place was given to Pavillion Floors of Woburn, Mass. Geoff Gordon, Fuse executive director, and Ron Lee with Fuse Commercial Flooring Alliance accepted the first place award on behalf of Pavilion Floors, a Fuse member. “The state of the art Schönox subfloor products now available in North America are changing the way projects are done, elevating the quality of those projects,” said Gordon. Second and third place winners were Integrity Floors of Dallas, Texas and Redi Carpet of Kennesaw, Ga., respectively.

According to Karen Bellinger, business development, HPS Schönox, although the Germany-based company is over 100 years old and well known in Europe, the contest helped showcase its North American arm and the substrate solutions it can provide. “We thought why not just give away product to prove that we have the solutions to fix the floors and also bring awareness to these different solutions.”
