[Chagrin Falls, Ohio] Tarkett, the worldwide leader in innovative and sustainable flooring and sports surface solutions, is proud to announce their Waterloo, Canada commercial plant is the silver winner of Canada’s Safest Employers Award.

Twenty-seven winners were recognized at a gala event in Toronto on Oct. 28.

Launched in 2011, Canada's Safest Employers Awards, hosted by Thomson Reuters and Canadian Occupational Safety magazine, recognize companies from all across Canada with outstanding accomplishments in promoting the health and safety of their workers.

The Tarkett Waterloo site manufactures Johnsonite-branded commercial wall base consisting of over 50,000 active SKUs. The plant began production in 1984 and runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 360 plus days a year over four continental shifts. Safety and maximizing capacity has always been the priority, according to the company. The facility consists of a 30,000 sq.ft. building over five acres of land.

“We are extremely proud of our safety accomplishments and our ongoing record of success in Waterloo,” stated Jodi Coburn, vice president in Canada for Tarkett. “Safety, consistency and customer service has been core for a long time, and it is gratifying that our team’s efforts have been recognized by such an organization in Canada.”

With a plant-wide focus on safety, Tarkett has been able to reduce claims fees, reduce insurance premiums, greatly reduce injuries and achieve OHSAS 18001 Certification. The Waterloo plant has also received an award from the EMC Group (Excellent Manufacturing Consortium Group) for seven years No Lost Time Accidents.
