“We want every community where our employees live and work to be a better place because we are there. That’s why we invest in nonprofits that are building stronger communities, and we’re proud that our employees give of their time and talents to support local organizations” said Don Maier, Armstrong Flooring.
[Lancaster, Pa.] Following its core values that include Integrity, Safety, Quality and Community, the company puts focus on Armstrong Flooring Community Fund and the Armstrong Flooring Global Sustainability Steering Committee, both community efforts.

“Our Community value is incorporated into everyday operations from a portion of sales from our American Scrape product supporting Home for Our Troops which has built well over 100 homes for disabled American veterans, to a culture where employee safety is embedded into everything we do. At Armstrong Flooring, Community is more than just a value — it’s a way life,” said Armstrong Flooring CEO Don Maier who also serves on the board of United Way of Lancaster County.

The Armstrong Flooring Community Fund funds organizations that build strong, healthy communities; engage students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) to encourage the next generation of innovators; salute first responders and support public safety organizations; and, achieve significant and lasting improvement in environmental outcomes.

According to the company, a significant portion of this funding is granted to the United Ways located in Lancaster and its plant communities. In addition, Armstrong Flooring has partnered with Good360, a global leader in product philanthropy and purposeful giving, to provide flooring products to non-profit organizations that help the needy and those recovering from disasters in local communities.

The Armstrong Flooring Global Sustainability Steering Committee addresses the community by providing governance and setting the business direction regarding sustainability issues that are material to our future. The Sustainability Steering Committee is composed of Armstrong Flooring senior leadership and championed by Maier. “The team sets sustainability goals, including our bold goal of a 25 percent reduction in energy, water and waste intensity by 2025. We believe these efforts will greatly benefit the communities where we have a business presence and beyond,” shared Maier.

Through the Steering Committee’s leadership, Armstrong Flooring continued to integrate chemical transparency throughout its business and expanded third-party certifications, which promote transparency and indoor environmental quality. The company also expanded its FloorScore certifications to cover more than 95 percent of its products by volume, including most of the adhesives and flooring products it sells. The company also expanded its Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification to include all of its engineered wood facilities and its largest solid wood facility.
