[Fort Lee, N.J.] In September 2013, Nourison, a manufacturer and importer of machine and hand-made rugs and broadloom, began a partnership with CARE & FAIR (C&F), to sponsor a medical clinic and dispensary in India.
C & F, an organization based in Germany and founded by socially engaged carpet traders, is working to combat illegal child labor and to improve the lives of carpet weavers and their families in the carpet producing areas of India, Nepal and Pakistan.
“Through the efforts of Oriental Rug Importers Children's Charitable Fund, we are sponsoring a clinic that provides both allopathic and homeopathic services, as well as a new X-ray room at Volker Heinrich Medical Dispensary in Bhadohi, India,” reported Alex Peykar, principal at Nourison. “We are pleased to give back to a community that is so vital to our industry. Improving the health and social conditions of weavers and their families is very important to us because, in addition to our own sense of social responsibility, their welfare and happiness is directly linked to the future of the handmade rug industry,” Peykar explained.
C&F was founded in 1994 and today has approximately 400 members in 21 consumer countries and three countries of origin.
