Family rooms are often hard surface flooring and even basement rooms are going that way, noted Peter Messner of Messner Carpet, Rugs and Flooring in Pittsford, N.Y. “But then the customer comes back and wants a rug. We are making a lot of custom rugs with printed products from Stanton and Nourison as well as the mills’ rug programs and we still have 300 rugs hanging in the Pittsford store. But custom is popular because a customer can take a piece of Axminster broadloom or tufted goods and we can cut and bind it for less than a traditional rug,” Messner explained.
Serving the Naples, Fla. area, Hadinger Flooring has a tremendous rug business, said Ed Keller, company CEO. “We inventory quite a bit with more than 6,000 area rugs in stock but also have a work room for fabricating rugs. We work with Stanton, Karastan, Tuftex and Dixie to make rugs as large as 20 ft. to 30 ft. long. Then we provide the added service and deliver them and put them down for our customers. We have a huge assortment,” Keller stated.
