CFI Louisville to host Subfloor Prep Workshop

Tuesday, January 21, 2020

[Louisville, Ky.] Three industry leaders, Ross Tarrant Architects, Louisville Tile Distributors and CFI, have joined forces to present the first ever CFI Surface Prep Training Class here on March 27-28. Louisville Tile will host the training at their Louisville training and warehouse facility at 3939 Produce Rd. This two day installer training course has been over a year in the making and provides a comprehensive look at evaluating and resolving surface prep issues in the floorcovering and ceramic industries, CFI said.

The course covers many topics including: moisture testing, proper underlayment selection and installation, checking for level and plumb, identifying surfaces contaminants, concrete porosity, dealing with existing floorcovering, use of self-levelers and other prep products. The class provides an in-depth discussion and hands-on demonstrations of commercial residential applications.

Ross Tarrant is an award winning and one of the premier architectural firms in the state of Kentucky, specializing in P-12 education, higher education, sports and recreation and sustainable design.

“We look forward to our partnership with CFI on this program,” Ross Tarrant’s Dan Colvin, senior principal and interior design, stated. “We are always interested in supporting any endeavor that will help provide our clients a better finished project.”

According to CFI, the training class represents part two of CFI’s efforts to educate installers and retailers on proper technique and industry best practices for surface preparation. In August of 2019 CFI published the CFI Surface Prep Resource Guide as a reference guide for floorcovering dealers, distributors and retailers.

“CFI has always been the go-to source for technical advice for installers, dealers, retailers, distributers, consumers and at times even manufacturers. Those calls have always ranged from basic to very advanced advice on installation issues, techniques, failures and like. With all the advances in LVT, ceramic and other hard surface products, CFI has received more tech calls concerning floor prep issues and failures in the past two years than it has in the past 20 years prior combined. It is what prompted us to develop this invaluable guide and training”, stated Robert Varden, executive director of CFI.
