Indeed, the heart is evident through events such as awarding scholarships — see the story on Great Southeast Flooring America in FCW's upcoming issue — to another co-op member, The Floor Trader of Gulfport, holding a Dog Days of Summer event for the Humane Society in each neighborhood where he has stores for the period of a month. For the event, the company gets a list of needs from the Humane Society and posts them, then people drop off supplies at the store. If someone would like to adopt a pet, the store will pay the fees. The retailer also collects and sends supplies to the troops.
The co-op, along with its sister co-ops, is passionate about the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, named in honor of a New York City fire fighter who was off-duty and on his way home to Staten Island when he heard of the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11th and went back and ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to aid his fellow first-responders.
Flooring America supports a specific part of the Foundation, Gold Star, that provides families of first responders with mortgage-free homes.
