[Salem, N.J.] In support of America’s military and their families, Mannington Mills recently partnered with the Gary Sinise Foundation's R.I.S.E, program, which creates specially adapted smart homes for severely wounded veterans.
Mannington said it donated Mercado Oak hardwood flooring for the home of U.S. Marine Corps Captain (Ret.) Sarah Bettencourt and her family. One week before earning her wings as a helicopter pilot, Captain Bettencourt developed a rare neurological disorder that forced her to medically retire. Now as a wife and mom, her San Diego home needed to be customized to her physical needs so she could move forward with life in a more independent way.
Mannington’s Mercado Oak hardwood flooring proved an ideal pick. Mannington described it as an engineered hardwood that’s stronger and more structurally sound than conventional hardwoods, adding that it created a continuous, durable surface for Bettencourt to navigate her wheelchair across.
“Over the years, many of our associates have served in the military, including members of my own family,” said Keith Campbell, Mannington Mills chairman of the Board. “We salute the work of the Gary Sinise Foundation and are pleased to have helped remodel the home of Captain Bettencourt and her family. We wish them much happiness in their home.”
