New offerings in trims & moldings
Thursday, April 29, 2021
By Ryane DeFalco
Mohawk’s Performance Accessories create a picturesque finish for any floor.
When it comes to ensuring an installation is complete,
trims and moldings are imperative
. And they go beyond performance to offer customers an aesthetically pleasing look with their flooring choice.
Today, suppliers must guarantee consumers have a high-performing product that also looks right at home in their space. Versatrim, for example, has invested in advanced technology to deliver the best visuals possible. “We have state-of-the-art in-house digital printing equipment to coordinate any vinyl or laminate floor,” explained Thilo Hessler, president of Versatrim. “We even coordinate the cork.”
In the hardwood category, Seneca Millwork’s range of
transitions include a variety of realistic wood visuals
to reflect the latest trends in the market. “The challenge always is to replicate a factory stain, gloss and special finishes like glazing and wire-brushing to coordinate to the customer’s floor selection,” said Mark Pacacha, national sales manager, Seneca Millwork.
Bill Treiber, technical sales manager, Artistic Finishes, said the growth of the trims and moldings category is a direct result of the flooring industry’s growth. “What once was a simple color set with limited options available has grown to almost endless numbers of colors, patterns, styles and designs. Today, for example, if a floor is hand-scraped, smoked and oil-finished, it is expected for the trims to be also.”
Finding the right trims and moldings for your flooring product
There are a countless number of trims and moldings options on the market
, and according to Julia Vozza, director of marketing, M-D Pro, the category has grown significantly in the last few years to “offer new colors and finishes to keep to trends. However, we have also seen new offerings in sizes to accommodate the growing thickness of flooring surfaces materials.”
Seneca Millwork offers an extensive line of hardwood transitions, said Pacacha. “Products include base products and wall moldings; reducers; stair nosings; thresholds and t-moldings. In addition to these categories, we carry our SignatureEdge stair treads, with five different edge options; hardwood and multilayer flooring vents; and our line of flexible moldings — SignatureFlex.”
Artistic Finishes provides wood and vinyl floor moldings, treads, risers, floor vents and has even recently ventured into WPC profiles. “Currently we work with over 18,000 colors by custom blending to the various manufacturers in the industry,” Treiber shared.
This year,
Mohawk expanded its Performance Accessories line
with the introduction of a vinyl 4-in-1 transitional piece, a waterproof quarter round and a vinyl stair cap. The company said its accessories program is meant to support both the specialty retailer and the installer alike, making installation easier for the installer and increasing the overall ticket size of every order for the flooring retailer. Mohawk added it will continue to build upon multifunctional technology seen across current accessories within the laminate category and extend it into the vinyl category.
